The subject of my work is as much the
act of painting outdoors as it is the landscape depicted. Painting
on a big canvas, entirely outdoors and immersed in the elements,
feels like the X-sport of landscape painting. I only paint outside
and enjoy the adventure of dragging huge canvases into the landscape
and working through changing light, wind, and the occasional
rattlesnake. The paintings are completed over many sessions; I mark
the spot where I stand exactly and return at the same time every day
to record the beauty of a specific place.
I have been painting the Wyoming
landscape since 1993, and live in the shadow of the Bighorn
Mountains with my husband, Aaron, and our two children. I studied
art at Yale University (BA--'87), and the
American University (MFA--'92). During the 1990’s, I pursued
teaching art as well, and was faculty at
The Taft School
in addition to having taught at the
Smithsonian Institution and the
Connecticut Community
College system. My paintings can be viewed frequently at
the The
Nicolaysen Art Museum
in Casper WY, The Yellowstone
Art Museum in Billings MT, or Bradford Brinton Museum in
Bighorn WY. My work is in
private collections across the U.S. and has been featured in
Southwest Art Magazine.
